Ken's Old Games - Version History

This page includes a Version History of some of my old games available for Macintosh and Windows, many of which are still usable on today's much more modern computers. Though most of the games have been upgraded to allow their use on more modern Mac's and PC's, the games still reflect the 30-year old character of the original games.

Hangman Pro (Macintosh) Version History

Version 1.0.7 - Released April 16, 2004 - Added a new Dogs category.

Version 1.0.8 - Released June 28, 2004 - Word categories, words, information, and hints are now identical on both platforms (Mac and PC.)

Version 2.0.0 - Released November 15, 2004 - This major update adds the ability for users to enter phrases up to 52 characters in length, adds a new category (Shakespearean Phrases) especially designed to show off the increased phrase length, adds the ability for users to add their own custom word lists to a new Custom Words Menu giving the user's custom word lists the same status as the dozens of built-in word lists, linearizes the alphabetic icons making the letters easier to choose for younger players, and much more.

Version 2.0.1 - Released January 4, 2005 - Modified the default icon to indicate version 2 and improved the Custom Word List handling. (Double-clicking a Custom Word List now rebuilds the Custom Menu with all the Custom Word Lists that are found in the same folder as the word list that was just double-clicked. Additionally, Hangman Pro will automatically engage the Custom Word List just double-clicked. In other words, it now does what intuitively you'd have hoped it would do!)

Version 2.0.2 - Released February 9, 2005 - Updated the Baseball Teams category (removed Montreal Expos, added Washington Nationals)

Version 2.0.3 - Released February 28, 2005 - Updated the Best Actors, Best Actresses, and Best Pictures categories with the results of the latest Oscars.

Version 2.0.7 - Released March 9, 2006 - Added a new preference (Clear Info on New Game) which clears the information displayed about the previously guessed word or phrase, when a new game has started. Also updated the information in the Best Pictures, Best Actors and Best Actresses categories with the results of the latest Oscars telecast.

Version 2.0.8 - Released August 12, 2006 - Improved the "Hard Words" category, etc.

Version 2.0.9 - Released October 1, 2006 - Improved the "Planets" category (think Pluto!), etc.

Version 2.1.0 - Released February 26, 2007 - Updated the Best Actors, Best Actresses, and Best Pictures categories with the results of the latest Oscar's Telecast.

Version 3.0.0 - Released October 8, 2009 - MAJOR UPDATE - This version of Hangman Pro is a complete rewrite from the ground up. Hangman Pro is now a full-fledged Universal Binary Macintosh application. Hangman Pro now runs natively on both older PowerPC and newer Intel-based Macintoshes (Rosetta is NOT required.) Hangman Pro is now easily re-sizeable, more colorful, more soundful, more customizable, more educational and more fun than ever.

Version 3.0.0 - December 12, 2011 - Hangman Pro for the Macintosh - Price Reduced to just $14.95 for individuals. (When playing the game, the un-discounted price may still be shown. But, at the time of purchase, you'll see the discounted price.)

Version 3.0.1 - February 14, 2012 - Hangman Pro for the Macintosh - Price reduction to just $14.95 for individuals now appears in the game itself. Also updated a few categories, such as Best Actors, Best Actresses, Best Pictures, Women in History, etc.

Version 3.0.2 - August 3, 2012 - Hangman Pro for the Macintosh is now code signed for increased compatibility with the latest Mac OSX.

Version 4.0.0 - December 17, 2016 - First Beta Release - This release works with Mac OSX 10.7 and above. This release also is the first to be (at least partially) Retina-Aware, for those with very high resolution screens. The "apparent randomness" of the words chosen has also been improved. (In the past, truly at random, words chosen in a category could be repeated before all the words in that category have been used. That is now fixed. As long as you stay within one category of words, either from the built-in categories or your own custom-created categories, no words will repeat until all words in the category have been used.) Many built-in categories of words have also been updated to reflect current information (Best Actors, Best Actresses, Best Pictures, various Sports Team categories, etc.) This release, for the most part, is still considered beta because it's not yet fully Retina-Aware (the user interface elements should look perfect on a Retina-aware screen, but many of the pictures for the various categories have not yet been upgraded to take advantage of higher-resolution screens).

Brickles Pro (Macintosh) Version History

Version 1.0 - Released May 11, 2004

Version 1.0.1 - Released May 16, 2004 - Added a new Brickles Pro Toolbar Icon allowing the user to choose from among more than a dozen different brickle array designs. Whichever design is chosen is the design used for all levels of the game. The user can also choose a random mode, where each new level is a random selection from among the available brickle array designs.

Version 1.0.2 - Released May 20, 2004 - In past versions of Brickles Pro, when a game was in progress, if the invisible cursor moved into the user's Dock area (for users running OS X), the cursor would become visible and stay visible while the game was in progress, which could be a little disconcerting. Now, the cursor becomes invisible again when moved back into the Brickles window.

Version 1.0.3 - Released June 1, 2004 - Added support for a new Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame web page, allowing users to publish their high scores online, and compare their scores with users from around the world.

Version 1.0.4 - Released June 20, 2004 - Added another extra ball opportunity, increased the default memory allocation (when playing in OS9), added the ability for non-registered users to utilize the new Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame, etc.

Version 1.0.5 - Released June 25, 2004 - A quick cosmetic fix. Previously, when run in OSX, occasionally when a ball was lost, a remnant (known as an artifact) of the paddle might be generated. That should now be a thing of the past!

Version 1.0.6 - Released July 6, 2004 - Added age and location fields to the Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame web page. Now, when a user gets a new high score, in addition to entering a name, that user is also asked to optionally enter his or her age and location. This adds to the fun of comparing your scores with users from around the world.

Version 1.0.7 - Released July 8, 2004 - Ooops! A quick, embarrassing bug fix release. Occasionally, a valid high score would not be accepted by the Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame web page. That is now fixed.

Version 1.0.8 - Released November 30, 2004 - Updates some internal graphics, adds a few tweaks to the Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame, modified the High Score Name dialog.

Version 1.0.9 - Released March 30, 2005 - A minor update. Updated help text, and other internal (invisible) changes.

Version 1.1.0 - Released November 27, 2005 - Added another extra ball opportunity.

Version 1.1.1 - Released January 4, 2006 - Updated version, copyright and related software information. Also, made it obvious that no information is ever sent to the Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame without the user's consent.

Version 1.1.2 - Released October 2, 2006 - Updated menu text, contact information, etc.

Version 1.1.3 - Released February 19, 2007 - Same game, lowered prices for individual, site and district licenses!

Version 1.1.3 - Released July 14, 2009 - The game is unchanged, but a new BricklesPro/Twitter Connection has been added to the Brickles Pro Online Hall of Fame Scoreboard. Now, when a user chooses to send a high score to the Online Brickles Pro Hall of Fame, an informative tweet will be generated.

Version 2.0.0 - Released October 8, 2009 - MAJOR UPDATE - This version of Brickles Pro is a complete rewrite from the ground up. Brickles Pro is now a full-fledged Universal Binary Macintosh application. Brickles Pro now runs natively on both older PowerPC and newer Intel-based Macintoshes. Brickles Pro is now smoother, faster, more colorful and more fun than ever.

Version 2.0.0 - December 12, 2011 - Brickles Pro for the Macintosh - Price Reduced to just $14.95 for individuals. (When playing the game, the un-discounted price may still be shown. But, at the time of purchase, you'll see the discounted price.)

Version 2.0.1 - February 15, 2012 - Brickles Pro for the Macintosh - The new price of $14.95 now appears in the game itself. Also updated much of the internals of the game, mostly invisibly, to allow the game to continue to be developed in the more modern development environments.

Brickles Pro (Windows) Version History

Version 2.0.1 - FIRST BETA RELEASE- April 26, 2012 - Brickles Pro for Windows - This is the first, beta release of Brickles Pro for Windows. This is the first game I've ever released using a new development environment that allows me to generate the same game on the Macintosh and Windows with (mostly) the same programming code. As I hope you'll see, the game does work, and it does look and feel virtually identical to the existing Macintosh version of Brickles Pro. But, I do expect some oddities, or graphic artifacts to be found. So, please keep this in mind. And, hopefully, I'll soon be able to fix any such oddities or artifacts as more and more people, with various versions of Windows, send me feedback.

Version 2.0.2 - BETA RELEASE- May 5, 2012 - Brickles Pro for Windows - Some quick internal fixes thanks to early beta testers.
